First Term Formula 2

INTRO

Good evening, once again. My name is Stefan Sojka. The formula for tonight’s programme is “FIRST TERM”. The date is Wednesday the 7th March 2001, and I am paneling my own show tonight. My career goal is to establish my name in the media industry, so as to increase the number of opportunities to express myself that might come my way. These could be in Radio, Television, Print Media, Film, Live Performance, and of course, The Internet.

This tape is not pre-recorded. If you weren’t aware, you are required to bring your own earphones and after week six, all of your programs should be recorded a week ahead. I have missed about four or five lessons in 77 weeks of training here. This program was written earlier today and I have rehearsed this program out loud 10 times.

NEWS JINGLE

Now here is the news, I’m Stefan Sojka

Prime Minister Howard's support plunges to 30 per cent
Napster given 72 hours to block copyright-protected songs
And China takes homosexuality off the official list of mental illnesses

The Coalition has plunged to an historic low primary vote of 30 per cent in a Morgan poll published today that will further rattle an already beleaguered Howard Government.
The Bulletin-Morgan poll, taken on two weekends before the Government's petrol back-flip, showed Labor with a huge two-party preferred lead - 63 per cent, up six points to the Coalition's 37 per cent, down six. The ALP's primary vote was 48.5 per cent.

A US federal judge ordered Napster today to block any copyright-protected songs from its Internet music file-sharing service.
US District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel, issuing an injunction she reworked on the order of an appeals court, said that once record labels present Napster with lists of songs they want banned, Napster has 72 hours to comply.
It was not clear what would happen if Napster was unable to comply with the order, and Napster officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

In a reversal of previous policy, Chinese psychiatrists have decided to stop classifying homosexuality as a mental disease.
New guidelines to be issued next month by the Chinese Psychiatric Association will drop all references to homosexuality as a pathological condition, said the vice-chairman of the association's standing committee, Mr Chen Yanfang.

The revised standards stated that homosexual behaviour was not to be considered abnormal by definition.
While they suggested same-sex desires could be a mental disorder for people unhappy with their orientation, those who were fine with being gay had no need for psychiatric help, Mr Chen said.

PLAY SONG – TORI AMOS

That Was Tori Amos with Professional Widow.

Well I’m off to Byron Bay tomorrow and I am so looking forward to it. I’ll only be gone for five days, but it’ll be a great opportunity to clear my mind. 3 grams of speed for the drive up should do it, with a couple of nice ready-rolled joints to take the edge off and enhance the driving experience. I’ll spot some hash in Coffs to get me in a far north coast kind of mood, before popping 1 ½ Eckies in Grafton, which should start kicking in just when I roll into Byron. A quick trip to the top pub for a couple of light beers (don’t want to drink and drive), then its mushroom picking time! Four days of pure mind-expanding bliss, a quick trip out to Nimbin to stock up on the speed, and ganja for the drive home, and it’s back to the Rat Race. Yeah, Sydney can really mess with your mind… That’s why I love Byron Bay…

Red Hot Chilli Peppers there with _____________________

So Stadium Australia is removing 30,000 seats to bring the maximum capacity down to 80,000. To me, that is the absolute height of arrogance, small-mindedness and short sightedness. The stadium has become a rugby league ground, and the promoters are having a hard time finding 110,000 people to come and watch two herds of human cattle ram each others heads up their bums and pull at each other’s jock straps, so instead of doing the smart thing and relocating rugby league to Dubbo Oval where it belongs, they trash 30,000 seats!! Just because rugby league has about as much future as a cow in an abattoir, every other sport, religion, rock band, charismatic speaker and monster truck show has to suffer. Sorry Mr Dalai Lama, but the Illawarra Steelers couldn’t pull a decent crowd so you can’t either – so there.

This is Stefan Sojka.

I believe that with perseverance and commitment, my goal of becoming an established identity in the media can be achieved. I will continue to write and perform my shows here at the academy until this goal is reached.

Next week I look at the different styles of the already established personalities in a show simply called “The Announcer” I hope you can join me then. Coming up next is Dave Gillette’s moving Tribute to Sir Donald Bradman. I’ll see you next week… good night!
