The Official List of Stupid Band Names
http://www.webcom.com/~mindslam/bandnames.html
This guy has been flooded with submissions, so he hasn't updated since about April, but there are minutes of amusement here, as we chuckle at artists like Red Hot Chilli Vanilli, and Barry Whitesnake. Submit your own stupid names, you never know it might end up there... eventually.
Verdict: Bigger Than The Bronski Beatles!!

Hit Of The Day
http://www.geocities.com/RodeoDrive/1163/allhits.html
This is a totally amatuer hit-of-the-day site, which the poor creator had to cancel after too many junk e-mails from commercial sites wanting exposure. After blowing her stack about the indignation she suffered, she gives you the complete hits-of-the-day list up until she gave up. All quirky, all weird, all amateur (well, mostly), all those crazy sites you like to talk about at morning tea break. "Hey, have you seen the Lip Balm Anonymous Home Page??"
Verdict: Keep this one close at hand, you never know when you'll need this vital resource!

Corner 41 Feature Articles
http://www.magna.com.au/~c41/c41p2.html
Sydney musician and writer Steve Kiely gives us a sample of his witty and irreverent creations along with a host of resources for you to explore. Follow the links of this impressive effort, and find yourself giggling at the Alternative History of Australia, Mod.squad - a clever send-up of cybersex marketing, his forgiveness page, simple yet effective, the amusing and slightly disconcerting dangercarrrs, well, go see what else you can find. You will also get huge HTML links from a fluent exponent of the language, more Frank Zappa links than you'll probably find anywhere, and a host of MIDI info. His CD is previewed as well. Thucydides? Wow!
Verdict: This is what the net is really about. Artistic expression and freedom, along with a wealth of resources. Funny, generous and friendly. Bookmark it, no doubt this monster will continue to grow.

Arbortec
http://www.iinet.net.au/~arbortec/
These aussie guys make power-tool attachments for free-hand wood-working creations. This is a real success story of a guy who fashioned a little tool just to get a job done, and found it so good that it now sells all over the world! With the success comes a great web site! A pleasure to view, and stacked with info, tips, free plans for making bowls and stuff, detailed product info, competitions, company profile and philosophy and an impressive gallery of works created using the amazing tools. Also a woodworking events calendar and links page of course.
Verdict: Whether you dig power tools or not, this is a good site to inspect. Web-designers take note, this is how it's done. Rewarding, effective.

Haggle Online
www.haggle.com
Created after a previous incarnation as a newsgroup buy/sell operation, Haggle Online achieves an elegant and highly useable live auction web site. It's free to join, and all you do is put up your wares with a sell-by date and minimum price, and the bidding begins. It is mostly computer gear, but there are many other categories. Mostly US based, Australia is crying out for a site like this. With this technology, paid classified advertising could end up on the same extinct pile as morse code, penny farthings and the dodo. It won't take long to catch on.
Verdict: Going once, going twice - sold to the Jolt-drinking geek with the UNIX t-shirt in Milwaukee!

Computers From Past to Present - A Lecture
http://www.ifi.unizh.ch/se/people/hoyle/Lecture/index.html
A neat and tidy little educational site that takes you from the birth of counting (on our digits) through the abacus and Charles Babbage's incredible "difference engine" of 1822, to "digital" computers as we know them today. Simple to navigate, this fascinating tale will give you a much deeper appreciation of what is going on inside that box, as well as admiration for the inventiveness and sheer genius of thinkers through the ages.
Verdict: You can count the reasons not to visit this site on one Hollerith Tabulating Machine.
